Where the data comes from

All the sports information comes from TheSportsDB. Livent does not serve it straight to the browser: it goes first through its own backend, which does three jobs.

The first is caching. Responses are kept for thirty minutes for the catalogue and two minutes for live scores, which avoids overloading the source and speeds up browsing.

The second is normalisation. The upstream field names are hard to read and change between API versions; the backend translates them into a stable shape before sending them on.

The third is images. Badges, photos and logos are downloaded once, stored, and served from our own domain, so they do not depend on the original source continuing to publish them.
